Child Poverty Action Group

Did you know more than one in four children in the UK are growing up in poverty? It doesn’t have to be like this. Child Poverty Action Group works to prevent and end child poverty – for good.

A selection of pupils at Fryent have been working in partnership with Child Poverty Action Group to look at the 'Cost of the School Day'. Our pupils have been carrying out research to understand what school is like for those in low income households and take action on school costs to make education more inclusive.

Our 'Youth Voice Champions' have been working on an action plan to present to senior leaders and governors to ensure that action is taken to eliminate barriers children may face with their education. This has been a real success!

We will ensure as a school we are working on the areas identified to ensure Fryent is as inclusive as it can be for all pupils.

This programme has linked well with our Right Respecting Agenda, it has touched upon so many relevant Rights of the Child. Below are just a few articles the children have picked out that the programme has linked well with:

  • Article 2- No discrimination
  • Article 3- The best interests of the child
  • Article 12- Respect for children's views
  • Article 13- Sharing thoughts freely
  • Article 24- Health, Water, Food and Environment
  • Article 26- Social and Economic Help
  • Article 27- Food, clothing and a safe home
